John Ware Jr. (1768 – 1810)

“John Ware Jr. was born 16 Dec 1768 in Gloucester township and county (before it was divided and became Camden county), New Jersey to John Ware Sr. and Sarah Mary Marple. He was raised here and learned the farming trade.

In the “Division of Land” doc for John Ware Sr. are the following names of his children, listed as heirs: George, Joseph, Patience (Ware) Sears, Jacob Jr., Isaiah, Andrew, and John Jr. Lists 6 sons and 1 daughter.

On 11 Dec 1787 John Jr. married Mary Albertson at Christ Church located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where 15 signers of the Declaration of Independence and several other founders of the nation were buried.

In the “Division of Land” doc for John Ware Jr the following names of children were listed as heirs: Joseph, John, Jesse, Mary, Rebecca, Patience, Sarah, Hannah, Keziah, Rachel (Ware) Whitaker, and Ann (Ware) Carter. The document said that John Jr had 3 sons and 8 daughters.

The New Jersey census records for 1789, 1795 and 1802 list John Jr. living in Gloucester township.

John Jr. died in Waretown, Gloucester township, at the young age of 41 from unknown causes. Waretown is located within a few miles of Williamstown (for more info on Waretown, visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waretown,_New_Jersey_ (former_town)

According to the New Jersey Wills and Inventories document, John Jr. of Gloucester county died without a Will and his estate was inventoried in 1810.

He was laid to rest in the old Methodist Church cemetery in Williamstown, Gloucester county, New Jersey. His headstone is difficult to read after 200+ years of weathering. In the History of Gloucester County, p 276, under the heading of Cemeteries, Williamstown Old Methodist Church Cemetery, it gives the following headstone inscription: “John Ware [Jr.] died Nov. 16, 1810, aged 41 years.” Another transcription performed in 1980 states: “Ware, John 16 Nov 1810, 41 years, 11 months.”
