Charles R. Ware, 83, of Amarillo died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Clifton Mann, rector, and the Rev. Jo Mann, associate rector, officiating. Private burial was in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mr. Ware was born Nov. 29, 1924, in Amarillo to Arthur and Margaret Ware. He was a cheerleader at and graduated from Amarillo High School in the class of ’42. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and then married Mary Jean Hill on Sept. 7, 1950, in Pampa.

Mr. Ware was a member and past potentate of the Khiva Shrine. He also was a member of the Panhandle Livestock Association and St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. Mr. Ware was involved in farming and ranching most of his life. He was a wonderful father, husband, uncle and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Joe Day Ware, in 2001; and a twin brother, Neil Ware.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Ware; a daughter, Margaret Ware Smith and husband Wendell of Amarillo; three nephews, Arthur H. Ware and Neil S. Ware, both of Amarillo, and Charles T. Ware of California; two nieces, Cathleen D. Ware and Christine S. Ware, both of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Trent Moore of Jackson Hole, Wyo., Ryan Moore of Amarillo and Monica Thompson and husband Kirk of Missouri City.

The family suggests memorials be to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 1601 S. Georgia St., Amarillo, TX 79102; or Panhandle Chapter, Alzheimer’s Association, 1400 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106.
