Jean Ware, 88, of Amarillo died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Jo Roberts Mann officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mrs. Ware was born Nov. 17, 1922, in Enid, Okla., to Paul and Martha Hill. She was a past president of the Junior League and Beta Sigma Phi Woman of the Year. She was a member of the Garden Club, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, where she served on the Altar Guild; and was on the steering committee to bring Goodwill Industries to Amarillo.
Mrs. Ware did a lot of volunteer work in the community and was a wonderful mother, grandmother and wife.
The family wishes to express special thanks to her caregivers, Maria, Madi, Laura and Nancy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, James Hill; a son, Joe Day Ware; a sister, Marjorie Scheffer; and her husband, Charles R. Ware.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Ware Smith and husband Wendell of Amarillo; her grandchildren, Trent Moore and wife Ashley of Jackson Hole, Wyo., Ryan Moore of Amarillo and Monica Thompson and husband Kirk of Missouri City; a great-granddaughter, Claire Thompson of Missouri City; and a daughter-in-law, Susan Ware of Amarillo.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 1601 S. Georgia St., Amarillo, TX 79102; or Alzheimer’s Association, 415 S.W. Eighth Ave., No. 300, Amarillo, TX 79101.
