Ware — John R. Jr, 80, Lincoln, died Friday (12/29/01). Born, Nederland, Texas, (10/14/21) to John R. Sr and Mary Beatrix (Howell) Ware. Graduated, Nederland High School, 1939. Retired lt. col., Air Force pilot, 28 years. Served in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Cold War. Graduated, University of Omaha. Member: AF&AM 1163, Port Neches, Texas; Sesostris Shrine, Lincoln; Eagle Scout; Capitol City Christian Church. Survivors: wife, Gloria; sons, daughter-in-law, Gary R. “Randy”, David E., John R. III “Rick” and Karen, all Lincoln; sister, Lillian Arnold, Nederland, Texas; brother, Joe L. Ware, Bertram, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Capitol City Christian Church, 7800 Holdrege St. Pastor Bill Thornton. Private entombment, Wyuka Cemetery Mausoleum. Military honors, Nebraska Air National Guard Honor Guard. Visitation: 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday with the family greeting friends 6-8 p.m., Wyuka Funeral Home, 3600 O St. Memorials to the church.

  1. John Ware was my grand father and he was also my friend. I miss him terribly but I know that he is in a better place than here. My family may disown me but I always knew he loved me. My nick name he called was buster. Even though as I got older I was embarrassed a little, I always let him call me that because it was special between us. John Ware was a good man – he was always one I looked up to. The world would be a much better place if there was more people like him in it. I love you Gramps and I hope to be with you again one day. God bless your soul and please look down on me and let me know your smiling.
