Bonnie Rosalind Colley Ware Obituary, 2005

Retired Registered Nurse 89, of Arvada and Rand, CO, died on March 11 in Wheat Ridge. The daughter of Austin King and Bonnie Drucilla Irena Williamson Colley, she was born on May 30, 1915 on an apple farm near Orrick, MO. She had five older brothers, John James Ingals, Paul Freeman, Virgil Farris, Jesse Raymond and Austin King Jr. As a teenager, she lived with Gunnar and Ruth Ohlsen along with their children, Ferd and Betty Anne Ohlsen in Kansas City. After receiving her degree in nursing from the University of Kansas in 1936, she moved to Denver to pursue a career that spanned over 50 years of service and care. She practiced general nursing at various Denver hospitals but her greatest professional accomplishment as a nurse was providing private nursing care for Senator Gordon Allott, philanthropists Eleanor Weckbaugh and Helen Bonfils among others, and her late husband. She was a member of the Colorado Nurses Assn. She married Jack Gordon Ware from Greeley, CO on December 31, 1938 in Denver. Their happiest years were spent building and living in their cabin home in Rand, CO. After her husband’s death, Bonnie continued to spend summers at the cabin enjoying friends and family. She loved playing pinocle and crocheting. Bonnie, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was a remarkable and courageous woman who was respected, admired and loved by those privileged to know her. She will be loved, always. She is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Jean Ware (William) Neighbors of Boulder; a granddaughter, Linda Ann (Richard) Bishop of MO; a grandson, Alan William Neighbors of Golden; three great- grandchildren, Sean, Lauren and Allison Bishop of MO; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Ware Shepherd, CA, Anna Colley McKim, MO, Betty Anne Ohlsen, AZ, Ferd Ohlsen, MN; numerous nieces and nephews; and her cat, Oakland. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Gunnar Ohlsen, and her husband, Jack G. Ware. Celebration of Life will be held Saturday 9:30AM at the Chapel of the Good Samaritan at Lutheran Medical Center, 8300 W. 38th Ave., Wheat Ridge. A graveside service will follow at 3:30PM in Rand, CO with a reception following at the Rand Yacht Club. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Jackson Co. Ambulance Service, 396 Lafever St., Walden, CO 80470 or to Lutheran Hospice Capital Campaign, 6870 W. 52nd Ave, Ste. 103, Arvada, CO 80002.
