Elmer Whitford Ware Obituary, 2010

Elmer Whitford Ware Elmer Whitford (Bud) Ware passed away Monday at Campbellton Graceville Hospital. He was 88. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Graceville, of which he was a long-time member. Visitation will be held at Williams Funeral Home, 5283 Brown St., Graceville from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3, 2010. Born and raised in St. Andrews, Dr. Ware graduated from Bay High School, Stetson University and received his doctorate in theology from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. In 1958, Dr. Ware and his family moved to Graceville where he was a professor of theology at Baptist Bible Institute, now known as Florida Baptist College. He finished his working career as the director of the Northwest Florida Regional Housing Authority, also of Graceville. Bud specifically requested a short obituary, which is fortunate because his talents & achievements were many. In addition to being a minister, scholar and businessman, he was a licensed master plumber, an accomplished engineer and designer, wood turner, artist and boat builder, having kept his son afloat in boats for many years. He has been a genuine friend & comfort to many during his years here in Graceville. Dr. Ware was preceded in death by his wife, Judy; mother of his children- Judith Ettlinger and Phillip; older brother, John of Tampa and sister, Lois Matthews of Athens, GA. He is survived by his loving wife, Erma, his children and Judith’s son, John Ettlinger; brother, Charles (Bubba) and wife Adelaide of Panama City and one sister, Mary Joe (Pie) Hubbard of Rockford, Illinois. He is also survived by one step-daughter, Sonia Roberts & husband Clark; four step-sons, Jerry Brookins & wife Diana, Reggie Brook-ins & wife Robin, Joe Sheffield & wife Suzanne and Roger Sheffield, along with 13 step-grandchildren & 26 step-great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staffs of the Campbelton Graceville Hospital and Covenant Hospice for their kind and affectionate attention during his hospital stay.
