CHEYENNE RESIDENTS FROM IOWA The following names were extracted from an article in the The Cheyenne Republican, Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, Sept. 10, 1909, Vol. 20, No.45. The article was about the first "Iowa Day" celebration held in the town of Kit Carson on Saturday, August 28, 1909. The celebration included a barbecue dinner, games, dancing, and a farm produce exhibit. Many people moved to Cheyenne County from Iowa in the early 1900's. The celebrants were asked to "register" their name and the Iowa county they had lived in. The celebration was established as a way "to meet old friends, make new friends, and bind together our Iowa colony, that we may know and help each other." Names are listed alphabetically. Following each name is the Iowa county from which the individual had immigrated.
