” To New York, April 6th, 1865

…I shall be delighted when the war is over and we can have quiet home life to think of. Lizzie Ware, Hattie, Charles and Jeannie and Cliff are at our house now. The Wares, I have asked to stay until Monday — they have gone now with Jeannie and Cliff to Arlington Heights and the Freedmen’s village. …”

“Washington, April 10th, 1865.

…The Wares, Lizzie, Hattie, and Charles, are here, and Jeannie and Cliff. The Wares were to go yesterday but staid for the illumination last night, which did not come off, and to-day Lizzie is in bed with a bad headache. …”
