Thomas H. “Tom” Ware, 81, of Momence, passed away Monday (Feb. 9, 2015) at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.

He was born Nov. 28, 1933, in Rensselaer, Ind., the son of Howard H. and Beatrice I. Galloway Ware. Tom married Lois M. Knoop on April 30, 1960, in Peotone. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Alan Ware, of Bettendorf, Iowa; one daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Dan Conway, of Bourbonnais; three grandchildren, Meghan Doud, Eric Conway and Lauren Conway; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Marceline J. and Morris Brunton, of Marietta, Ga., and Susan Bulliner, of Crest Hill; and one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Phil and Jean Scheidenhelm, of Chatham.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

He owned and operated Quality Homes for more than 20 years as a general contractor.

Tom was a veteran of the U. S. Army, where he was a member of the “Old Guard,” the Army’s official ceremonial unit, which provided military rites for deceased veterans at Arlington National Cemetery and the surrounding area. This unit also provided military escort for the president.

He enjoyed fishing in Canada and all over the United States, and traveling.

Tom had been a member of the Elk’s Club and the Moose, served on the Momence School Board, was a member of the Kankakee County Home Builder’s Association and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Momence.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. Friday until the 7 p.m. memorial service at Cotter Funeral Home in Momence, with the Rev. Janice Ringenberg officiating. Momence Honor Guard will provide military rites after the service.

Cremation rites will be accorded.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley or First Methodist Church of Momence.
