Alpha Robertson Payne Ware, 87, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2019, at Liberty Ridge Health and Rehab. Twice married she was the wife of the late Walter James Payne and the late James Ralph Ware. Born in Lynchburg on January 9, 1932, she was a daughter of the late John Munford Robertson and Ollie Carwile Robertson. She was a retired employee of Frances Denny Company and a member of College Hill Baptist Church. In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Iva Childress Johnson and a nephew, Carlton Skinnell. She is survived by a sister, Irene R. Skinnell of Bedford; and two nephews, Malcolm Childress Jr. of Lynchburg, and Carroll Skinnell of Bedford; and a special friend, Bonnie Wiles, who was like a daughter to her. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at Spring Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Whitaker officiating. Janet A. Ware

Janet A (Jones) Ware, 84, of Middleburg, Florida, formerly of Wesley Chapel,  Florida lost her yearlong battle with cancer and died peacefully in her sleep at Acosta-Rua Center Community Hospice 5450 Ramona Blvd Jacksonville, Florida on March 5, 2018. She is predeceased by her parents, Roy D. Bachelor and Ida Marie (Grant) Bachelor and her late husband, William H Ware of Zephyrhills, Florida and her three sisters, Marcella (Russ) Lebbon, Lalah (Ray) Bauer and Bettie (Howard) Maynard.

 

Janet was born on September 13, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan and graduated from East Detroit High School in 1951. As a trained bookkeeper, Janet worked for a number of corporations including Big Powderhorn Mountain Ski Resort in Bessemer, Michigan, several insurance firms, the Florida State Fair Authority and really enjoyed her last job where she worked as a sample server at Sam’s Club in New Tampa, Florida. 

As the youngest of for girls, her father raised her as a tomboy and consequently became a ferocious sports fan, especially for her native Detroit Redwings and her favorite adopted team, the Tampa Bay Lightning.  Janet was an avid golfer and she and her deceased husband, Bill Ware, would travel around Florida and the Southeast United States in order to play as many different courses as they were able.  They especially enjoyed their numerous trips to watch the Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia.  Janet also loved to travel and was extremely grateful to have been able to take extended excursion to Hawaii and Alaska and talked about her experiences there as one of the highlights of her life.

Survivors include her daughter, Pamela (George) Gretton of Middleburg, Florida, two sons, Roy (Barbara) Jones, Davenport, Florida and Dr. Kenneth (Dawn) Jones, Vinings, Georgia.  Granddaughters, Nicole (John) LaFleur, Davenport, Florida,  Dr. Stephanie (Steven) Lemos, Woodstock, Georgia, Katherine (Michael) Nelson, New Tampa, Florida Leann (Ruben) Gonzalez, Orange Park, Florida, Amy Gretton, Jacksonville, Florida, Lizzy Gretton, Middleburg, Florida,  Grandsons, Derek Jones, Davenport, Florida,  Daniel (Melissa) Jones, Hudsonville, Michigan, Thomas (Kaela) Duval  Williamston, South Carolina and 20 great-grandchildren.

Francis “Buddy” Ware, 85, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018.
Buddy was born October 21, 1932 in Pensacola, Florida to John Edward Ware and Grace Paulsen Ware. He was a longtime area resident and member of the United Methodist Temple.
Buddy retired from Coca-Cola and the United Way of Beaumont. He was a member of the Port Arthur Rotary Club where he served as Past President and Secretary.
Buddy proudly served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Hall; and brothers, Robert Ware and Richard Ware.
Survivors include his wife, Norma “Janey” Ware of Port Arthur; daughters, Sharon Burton and husband Don of Huntsville, Janice Douga and husband Mike of Nederland; son, Timothy Ware and wife Patricia of Houston; brother, John Ware and wife Nadine of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren, Shane Douga, Cayne Douga, and Meghan Burton; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 15, 2018 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with Chaplain Warren Wargo officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Artie (Memaw) Janet Ware died peacefully November 29 in Galveston. She was 102 years old. She was a Homemaker. Artie was born November 19, 1917 in Galveston to Artie and Pearl Shaw. She attended Galveston Public Schools. On Christmas Eve 1935 she married Bill Ware. They were married for 54 years when he died in 1990. Memaw and Papa Speck were faithful members of Trinity Episcopal Church most of their adult lives, joining Trinity when their children were young. They both worked in the church; he as an usher and especially she as a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Altar Guild and other church organizations. Most of her time outside the home was spent at Trinity where she made many friends, most of whom she outlived. She was also predeceased by her faithful son-in-law, Wayne Funke, who was always ready to graciously give her a helping hand.

Artie is survived by daughter, Belva Funke; son, Bruce Ware and his wife Jo Ann, who took good care of Memaw during her later years; two grandsons, Elliott Ware and wife Diane, and Kevin Funke; three granddaughters, Chele Ware, Pam Davis and husband Ricky, and Cynthia Sifuentes and husband Frank; three great grandsons, six great granddaughters, five great-great grandsons, and two great-great granddaughters.

The family would like to thank Rev. Susan Kennard for her special love, care, and kindness; the caregivers at UTMB and The Meridian; and the hospice nurses of A-Med.

Visitation will be from 9:00 until 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 4 at Malloy & Son Funeral Home in Galveston with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 am, followed by burial at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery.

Nancy A. Ware Obituary, 2019

Nancy A. Ware, 61, of Platteville, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on November 26, 2019, at Epione Pavilion, surrounded by her friends. In accordance with Nancy’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral mass. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 7 at 1:30 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery in Platteville, WI. Nancy was born on December 14, 1957, to Robert and Frances (Richter) Ware. Nancy graduated from Platteville High School in 1976. She continued her education, graduating from Southwest Technical School in 1986 with degrees in Legal Secretary and Administrative Assistant and then from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville in 1993 with a degree in Business Administration. Nancy worked for Lands’ End for over 30 years.

Photographing her nieces, nephews, and countless other students in their sporting events was one of Nancy’s greatest joys. Her life philosophy was to “Give Until it Hurts.” She believed in the power of education and created a scholarship at Platteville High School and numerous scholarships at UW-Platteville. Nancy loved to walk, bike, and swim. Some of her favorite times were spent walking around Smith Park or swimming at the pool, visiting with everyone. She participated in several cancer walks and even completed a half marathon.

She is survived by her siblings, Randy Ware, Mary (Dennis) Williams, Ron (Wanda) Ware; her sister-in-law, Jane Ware; her two feline children, Dolly and Sammy; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Michael; sister-in-law, Margie Ware; and two canine children, Bandit and Mischief.  Nancy would like to give thanks to her special caregivers, Mary Place and Jill Ingersoll, the staff at Epione Pavilion, Agrace Hospice, Father David Flanagan, Deacon Bill Bussan, and Dr. Kevin Carr.

KENDALLVILLE — Matthew John Ware, age 35, of Kendallville, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, December 2, 2019. He was born on June 7, 1984 the son of Leslie and Kelly (Waldron) Ware in Kendallville, Indiana.

Survivors include his parents, Leslie and Kelly Ware of Ligonier, Indiana; four children, Kylie, Landon, Ryker, and Brantley; two sisters, Rachel (Rick Rollins) Ware of Ligonier, Indiana; Jennifer (Nick) Ballard of Albion, Indiana; grandparents, Ruth Waldron of Kendallville, and Linda and Paul Miller of Cromwell.

Matthew loved his children dearly and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing poker, practical jokes, and was an avid fan of the UFC.

A funeral service will be held in Matthews honor at 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, IN 46767. Pastor Joey Nelson will officiate. A private Cremation Committal will take place at Legacy Cremation & Remembrance Center following the service.

Family and friends will be received from 2-6 p.m. at Yeager Funeral Home prior to the service on Thursday.

MYRTLE BEACH—Cornelia Ware Kimmell, 84, wife of James “Jim” Kimmell, died Nov. 26.

Born in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, on Nov. 21, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Sidney Howard Ware and Martha (Herndon) Ware.

Cornelia was a 1953 graduate of Kings Mountain High School, where she was class salutatorian, editor-in-chief of the school paper and May Queen.

Known affectionately in her retirement years as “Nana” to family and friends alike, Cornelia was a helpmate to her husband throughout his career as a high school coach in Saluda, Lewisville, Newberry, Chester and Latta, where he also served as principal of the elementary school.

Cornelia served as director of food services for the Latta Area Schools and as an administrative assistant in the Coastal Carolina School of Education, among other positions during her years of employment.

Cornelia and Jim relocated in retirement to Myrtle Beach, where together they were active and loving grandparents, enthusiastic supporters of local sports teams, and volunteers with community charities. Both were also avid birders.

A survivor of polycystic kidney disease, Cornelia thrived for 22 years, until her death, on a transplanted kidney donated post-mortem by a total stranger. Cornelia was active in promoting organ donation. Her death resulted from complications for surgery unrelated to her kidney.

Survivors, in addition to Cornelia’s husband, include sons James W. “Kim” (Karol) Kimmell Jr., Edward Ware Kimmell and Jeffrey Kodi (Kristi) Kimmell; daughter Marti (Curt) Hancock; grandchildren Grayson Hancock (Chris Owens), Anna Kimmell, Will Kimmell, Luke Hancock, Mallory Hancock (Karl Thompson), Karlee Kimmell (Clay) Hetland, Hanna Kimmell, Calen Kimmell and John James Kimmell and great-grandchildren Cayla Owens, Chris Owens and Henry Thompson.

She was preceded in death by grandchild James Curtis Hancock.

Anna Roberts Ware Obituary, 2019

SUDLERSVILLE — Anna Roberts Ware of Sudlersville, Md. died peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019 at her home near Sudlersville. She was 96.

Mrs. Ware was born April 28, 1923 at Rose Hill farm near Sudlersville, Md. She was the daughter of the late Austin Finley and Mary “May” Roe Roberts. She entered her Mother’s Girl Scout Troop #1 as a Brownie at age 7 and had countless fond memories of her experiences in one of the most traveled and highly decorated Girl Scout Troops in the region. Mrs. Ware graduated from Sudlersville High School in 1941 and from Mary Washington College in 1944. She began teaching in Montgomery County, Md. and then in Queen Anne’s County, Md., where she taught in several one-room schoolhouses throughout the county.

In 1950 she married Robert F. Ware and moved to Ware’s Wharf, Dunnsville, Va. They moved to Sudlersville in 1956 and for a time Mrs. Ware taught in the community kindergarten program held in the basement of the Church Hill Theatre.

 

Mrs. Ware was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Chapel, St. Luke’s Parish and was an active member for many years of the St. Andrew’s Chapel Altar Guild and Episcopal Church Women. She was also a member of the Major Samuel Turbitt Wright Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, the Upper Shore Genealogical Society and the Queen Anne’s County Historical Society.

Mrs. Ware loved researching genealogy and assisting others with their own research. She loved the lore and history of the Tidewater region. Her knowledge of local history will be missed by many who knew her.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Robert F. Ware; her son Robert F. Ware, Jr. “Bert;” a brother, William S. Roberts and two sisters, Martha G. Walmsley “Muff” and Helen R. Roberts.

Mrs. Ware is survived by her daughter Arraminta Ware Schrader and her husband Eric C. Schrader. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Services were held Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Chapel in Sudlersville, Md. Burial followed the service in Sudlersville Cemetery.

Mary Isham Baker Ware Obituary, 2019

Mary Isham Baker Ware left this life on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at the Shenandoah Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville, Va. She was born on January 27, 1920 at White Plains in Lovingston, Virginia to parents Keith Marshall Baker and Araminta Jefferson Coleman Rennie Baker. She was shy of 43 days of being 100 years old. She grew up on the Baker family farm in the Lovingston Cove and later in the village of Lovingston where her father was sheriff for many years. She was always busy working at numerous jobs at home and outside of the house. The last one was in the Accounting Department at the University of Virginia for many years until she retired. She loved being outside and growing many fruits and vegetables, which she shared with others. Mary was married to Harvey B. Ware who preceded her in death. She is survived by three daughters, Faye Langran (Buddy) of Afton, Beverly Martin of Afton, and Sandra Proctor, of Staunton; five grandsons, Michael Martin, Matt Martin, Aaron Proctor, Adam Proctor, and Jeffrey Huffer; two granddaughters, Daphne Taylor and Mary Beth Proctor; and seven great-grandchildren. She also leaves many cousins and friends. She will be remembered as a force, one who could always accomplish whatever she put her mind to. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Wells/ Sheffield Funeral Chapel in Lovingston from 6 until 8 p.m. with services following at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2019 at the Nelson United Methodist Church with Pastor Liz Buxton and Pastor Randy Harlow officiating. Interment to follow in the Baker Family Cemetery in Lovingston. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, and great-grandson. The family would like to thank all those at the Shenandoah Nursing and Rehab Center who provided so much loving care for Mary during her last days. Mary loved all animals.
