Eugene Ware Dunn Obituary

Eugene Ware Dunn, 92, of Solon, formerly of Marion, died Friday, January 27, 2017, at his home. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion and one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 2, 2017, at Faith Lutheran Church in Marion by Pastor John Albertson. Private family burial will be at a later date at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Wears of Solon; daughter-in-law, Jean Dunn of Marion; his children, Linda (Wayne) Blackford, Louan (Jim) Handke, Lance (Karen) Dunn and Lisa Hoffmann, all of Marion; step-children, Penny Tompkins of Solon, Bonnie Willoughby of West Branch, Wendy Wears of Solon and Brent (Donna) Wears of Solon; 21 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ruth Ann Dunn; two brothers, Leonard Dunn and Richard Ware; and a son, Lynn.

Eugene was born November 9, 1924, the son of Leslie and Eulalia (Ware) Dunn at home, North of Anamosa. He graduated from Marion High School in 1942 and attended Iowa State University. Eugene served with the U.S. Army from 1944-1946 during WWII. He was in the 9th Infantry Division in Germany. Eugene farmed for 25 years and later was in Real Estate Sales, Construction and Development in Marion for 20 years. He first married Ruth Ann Pech on March 6, 1949. She died July 28, 2002. Eugene then married Irene (Jedlicka) Wears on August 2, 2003, in Marion.

He was a member of American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion, Charter Member of Faith Lutheran Church and also attended Solon United Methodist Church.

Eugene enjoyed traveling, especially cruises and bus trips, coffee with friends, and most of all, loved his family.

Memorials may be made in Eugene’s memory to Faith Lutheran Church, Solon United Methodist Church, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Kathryn "Kathy"-Ware-Obituary

ONAWA, Iowa | Kathryn Mings Ware, 66, of Loveland, Colo., formerly of Onawa, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016, at McKee Medical Center in Loveland.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church in Onawa. Burial will be in Whiting City Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

NORA SPRINGS — Barbara Ann Ware, 73, of Okemos, Michigan, formerly of Nora Springs, Iowa, died Friday, April 24, 2015, at her home. A memorial Mass was held at noon Friday, May 8, 2015, at St. Martha Parish, Okemos, Michigan.

Barbara Ann Ware Obituary, 2015

Barbara Ann Ware, 77, of Callaway, passed away Friday, October 16, 2015.

 

She was a loving and generous mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born November 21, 1937, the daughter of the late Parris Henry Richards and Lillie Mae Vess Richards. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Earl Ware; son, Ronald Patrick Baker; daughter, Gena Faye Moses. Surviving are her daughter, Debra Weeks; two sons, Richard Allen Baker, Rennie Paul Baker; four sisters, Nellie Ringgold, Shirley Flournot, Brenda Harper, Carol Carr; brother, Calvin Decker; grandchildren, Kimberly Dawn Weeks, her “adopted grandson” Joseph Allen Wright, Harley David Weeks and his fiancée, Mikal Bohon, Michael Moses, Ricky Baker, Tina Reed, Jenney Jenkins; she was Nana to Hailey and Leann Wright, Rayne Weeks and Taylor Bohon as well as other great-grandchildren.

Cynthia Ware-Rupe Obituary, 2017

OTTUMWA-Cynthia Ware-Rupe, of Ottumwa, Iowa passed away on May 16, 2017, at home in the loving arms of her family.

She was born on September 1, 1948 to Marie Coyne Pointer. Shortly after she was adopted by Harold and Aletha Ryals Ware of Ottumwa.  She married John F. Perdue on March 15, 1968 and had a child Lisa Ellen.  They later divorced. She married Wilbur D. Rupe on September 19, 1980.

She was a graduate of Ottumwa High School and earned a Criminal Justice Degree from Indian Hills Community College.  She worked as a security officer at Cargill in Eddyville.  Following her love for retail and people, she worked at Hickory House, Seiferts, Herbergers, and K-Mart. She also worked at Seneca.

She is survived her husband, Wilbur Rupe of Ottumwa, Iowa; one daughter, Lisa (Bob) Edie of Urich, Missouri; a brother, Mike (Joyce) Ware of Perry, Iowa; her biological mother Marie Coyne Pointer of Portland, Oregon; nieces and a nephew; aunts and uncles; and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her beloved dog Elsa, her parents, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Father Patrick Hilgendorf officiating.  Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Friday with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.

CEDAR FALLS — Conrad “Wayne” Ware, 82, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, Nov. 20, at NewAldaya Lifescapes.

He was born June 2, 1935, in Danville, Ind., to Conard and Irene Ware. He married Jeanette Cook Gutknecht on Dec. 8, 1973, in Cedar Falls.

He served in the Army and retired from John Deere.

Survived by: his wife; his stepchildren, Carla (Frank) Jonte, Linda (P.A.) Toms, Dan (Leah) Gutknecht, and Lori (Ben) Behnami; a daughter, Kristi (David) Schryver; his grandchildren, Shawna Hanson, Chad (Kristina) Toms, Kelly (Mike) Loveless, Mike Jonte (Amanda Tackett), Madison and Jackson Gutknecht, Leila Behnami (Alex Wiley), Holly (Curtis) Dreesman, Michael (Wendy) Cooper, and Mark Cooper-Goss; many great-grandchildren; a brother, Jim (Nancy); a nephew, Andy (Stephanie) Ware; and a niece, Jill (Greg) Smith.

Preceded in death by: his parents; a daughter, Julie; and a nephew, Brad.

Family memorial services: will be held at a later date.

Memorials in lieu of flowers: may be directed to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

P.S. My Friend.  Miss you Wayne,

   His cheerful voice will be missed when we would work together on the phone on his FAMILY History.  Though we were never able to get him back further on the Ware line, before Kentucky, we were able to help him fill in some of the blanks. He was always ready to comment on others post.  Many of you may not know that he financially contributed to the Wildwood House Museum, Nebraska City, NB.  Though the Ware family who had occupied this house were not his relations, Wayne adopted them as his own and visited there when he could.

Betty Mae Ware Obituary, 2017

OTTUMWA – Betty Mae Ware, 90, of Ottumwa died at 9:10 p.m. March 17, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society – Ottumwa.

She was born February 21, 1927 in Ottumwa to Frank and Grace Courtney Brown.  She married James M. Ware June 2, 1947.  He preceded her in death April 28, 2001.

A graduate of Bloomfield High School in 1944, she taught four years in the Wapello County Schools.  She assisted in the American Home Finding for placement of children and worked for six years as a Home Health Aid for Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

Betty also was a volunteer at the Senior Citizens Center.

Surviving are a son, Gary (Donneta) Ware of Ottumwa; a daughter Sheryl (Kenneth) Smith of Ottumwa; four granddaughters and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Billie Foster of Ottumwa.

She was preceded in death by a son, Marvin Ware; a sister, Marcene Stodgill.

Private family services will be held with interment in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, IA.

Robert Boyles Ware Obituary, 2018

 

Mr. Robert Boyles Ware went home to God on Jan. 28, 2018. He was born to Ira (1964) and Clara May (1917) Ware in Coggon, Iowa, on July 1, 1917. After graduating from Coggon High School, he went on to Belle Plaine College of Business. There, he met Louise Custer, whom he married after he got his degree in business administration.

Robert was a native Iowan who lived at Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids prior to moving to Sweetwater, Tenn., to be near his son and family. He always had a smile on his face and loved talking to people. He was a caring and giving friend to everyone who knew him.

After serving time in the Navy during World War II, Robert drove a bread truck for Peter Pan Bakery, and soon learned he enjoyed being a salesman. He eventually got into sales of building materials, and eventually found the job he enjoyed the most, Swanson & Gentlemen Construction Co., industrial buildings and prestressed concrete. He traveled the state of Iowa bidding on everything from office buildings to factories.

Preceding Robert in passing were his wife of 74 years, Louise (2012); son, James (2014); stepmother, Matilda (1965); twin brother, Richard; sister, Virginia Riggins Christianson; and stepbrothers, Richard and Robert Bressler.

Surviving family members are daughter, Ellen Lacy of Huntington Beach, Calif.; son, Robert D. Ware and his wife, LaVena, of Tellico Village, Loudon, Tenn.; grandchildren, Debra (Bill) Tipton, Russell and Robert (Carla) Lacy, Katharine Griggs, Elizabeth (John) Young, Laura (Rob) Archer, Andrea (Steve) Fernandez and Nicholas (Damena) Ware; 12 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Pat (Charles) Custer and Mildred (John) Custer; plus many nephews and nieces.

Robert was an active member of the former Trinity United Methodist Church, then moved to Marion United Methodist Church. He was a member of the El Kahir Shrine and Mason Lodge of Cedar Rapids most of his adult life. He was very active in the Iowa Senior Golf Association for several years. Besides golf, he enjoyed fishing for walleye at Lake of the Woods in Minnesota with both of his sons and his grandson, Nick.

A memorial service will be held at Cedar Memorial on June 30, 2018, at 3 p.m., with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital or City of Hope in his name.

Beverly Ware Obituary, 2017

Beverly Ware

Beverly “Grams” Ware, 77, of Carroll, formerly of Ottumwa, died October 1, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born December 28, 1939 in Ottumwa to V.R. and Wilda Lester Smith. On December 19, 1959 she married her high school sweetheart, Charles “Chuck” Ware in York, NE. He preceded her in death on February 11, 2009.

She spent her younger years in the Ottumwa community and graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1958.

After Chuck was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force, the couple returned to Ottumwa and operated the A&W Drive-In until 1978. In 1979 they moved to Carroll when they purchased Carroll Bowl, a business the family operates to the present day.

She was a long-time volunteer at New Hope Village in Carroll. Bev enjoyed sewing, cooking, bowling, entertaining, camping and making people laugh. Most of all Bev enjoyed the time she spent spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are her sons, Ken (Linda) Ware and Rod (Pam) Ware both of Glidden; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeff) Puffett, Stacy (Keith) Bauer, Dawn Ware, Jon (Kimberly) Ware, Erica (Tim) Smuck and Matthew Ware; 8 great-grandchildren, Keaton, Kylie, Kiana, Cody, Randy Brittany, Ali Jo, Pierceton; her siblings, Bob Smith of Las Vegas, NV, Bonnie Stufflebeam of Ottumwa and Butch (Lila) Smith of Knoxville; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Jessica Ware; her siblings, Bill Smith, Barbara Heckart, Brenda Leach and Betty Davis.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Hornback officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Visitation begins at 3 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for bowling scholarships.

Jerry Lee Ware Obituary, 2017

Jerry Lee Ware, 82, of 918 Hackberry St. died October 9, 2017 at Ridgewood Specialty Care.

He was born March 5, 1935 in Iowa City, IA to Roy Virgil and Georgia Ayers Ware. He married Donnalee Schultz November 15, 1955.

Growing up in Ottumwa, Jerry served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a truck driver, hauling whole milk, worked for John Morrell and Co., and worked 15 years at Lowenberg Bakery from where he retired.

He was a life member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving is his wife, Donnalee; three daughters, Michelle Garrett, Ramona (Cort) Wells and Valerie (Dennis) Morett; two sons, Billy Joe (Rose) Ware and Guy Merle (Melissa) Ware all of Ottumwa; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Glosser and Betty (Dwayne) Proctor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Billie Gene Ware and Charles Delmar Ware; a son, Terry Lee Ware and a great grandson, Race Webster.

His body has been cremated. Military honors will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home followed by a time to celebrate his life until 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Hospice serving Davis and Wapello Counties, 927 Pennsylvania Ave. Ottumwa, IA 52501.
