“Elder Leo Ware, reporting the work of Company A, writes that they have had good treatement and have enjoyed an unusually successful week, although the weather has ‘been rather disagreeable for country work. He mentions that he and Elder Jesse Short held a meeting at Greensborough with a large crowd in attendance. After meeting, one of the most prominent citizens of the town invited the elders to partake of his hospitality and give in return more of the doctrine which they had expounded on the street. They were invited back to hold another meeting with the people of that city, and after a lapee of two or three days returned and had the privilege of talking to a larger crowd than they had before.”

“Southern Indiana—Some of the residents of Southern indiana seem to be more concerned about their purpose upon the earth and to know the true plan of salvation and to show obedience unto than heretofore. During well attended meetings such questions as these have been brought before the elders, so Elders Leo Ware and Linvell Walker write: ‘Who has the right or who has been commissioned to perform the ordinances of the gospel for men upon the earth, and how does that right come?’ ‘How are we to discriminate between Christ’s plan of salvation and man made systems?’ After the elders had staisfactorily answered these questions and many more, some of the audience came forth and requested the elders to stay in the best hotel in the city at their expense.”

‘This excerpt has been taken from the report of Elders Linvell Walker and Leo Ware, ‘We are enjoying the very best of health and enjoyed this week’s labor very much. The people have treated us well, especially at our meetings and following the conclusion of the services. We have held some very good meetings after which some members of the audience have requested us to stay and converse upon some principles of the gospel, that have not been clear to them before. We held a meeting in Vicksburg and while extending invitations to the people of that town, one gentleman asked us if we had a place to stay that night and if not he would gladly entertain us and welcome us to his home. This invitation was thankfully received. At the time appointed for the meeting a large crowd assembled and gave good attention. After meeting a gentleman who had visited Utah came to us and eulogized the pioneers who participated in the exodus to Salt Lake City. He especially commended Brigham Young and his master mind. His remarks caused the people who stood near to change their opinions somewhat for they had formed opinions about the Utah people after reading misrepresented conditions depicted by magazines, in the home of the man who so kindly entertained us, we found several, of our books, as the gentleman had met elders before and since that time had been making a study of ‘Mormonism.’ “

“Southern Indiana—Elder Linvell Walker and Leo Ware, who have been laboring in the city of Sullivan and vicinity for the past two or three weeks, write that they have visited many good people who are interested in the gospel plan. Some of whom have been much interested concerning the priesthood and what it means to the world. They have also resolved to investigate the principle of Divine authority, for, say they:'”We have always thought that any man who had the desire to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and baptize the members into the kingdom of God could do so.’ But since reading a few passages of Scripture which the elders have referred them to they are now in doubt concerning their first conviction and think the time can be well spent in finding out whether Christ’s servants choose him or he chooses them.”

“Southern Indiana–The elders who labor in Columbus, Jos. G. Davis and Leo Ware, record this as being their experience without exception. They mention the names of a young man and woman who received several years ago some tracts on Mormon doctrine which they read and re-read. When the elders met them they were welcomed and respected as the Lord’s servants and promulgators of the truth.

“Chicago—Elder Leo Ware of the office force visited the Milwaukee branch of the Church Sunday and reports a good time. He says the saints feel well in the cause of truth and that the work is progressing nicely in that part of the Lord’s vineyard.”
