Lee Andrew Ware Obituary, 1996

" Lee Andrew Ware, 67, of Roanoke, known to many as "Punch", died 
Monday, Jan. 1, 1996, in LaFayette Extended Care Nursing Home, 
LaFayette, after an extended illness.
   Funeral services for Mr. Ware will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, 
Jan. 4, at First Baptist 
Church, Riley Street, Roanoke, with the Rev. Lathonia Wright
officiating. 
Burial will Be in East Roanoke Cemetery.
   Punch was born in Randolph County to the late Juanita Ware 
McCurtis in 1928. He spent a lot of time at Vinson's Red & White,
where he would often help customers carry groceries. Always
ready to be helpful, he had a friendly face for everyone. 
Punch joined First Baptist Church at an early age. Having been 
without parents for many years, he loved his cousins dearly and 
thought of them as his primary family.
   Survivors include several special cousins who assisted in 
caring for him: Mrs. Melvinnie Johnson, Earnest Heard Jr., Mrs.
Phyllis McCray and Debbie, Tracy, Kenneth and Derrick 
Johnson of Roanoke, Willie R. Boykins of Chattanooga, Tenn., 
Perry Johnson of Akron, Ohio[,] and Mrs. Johnnie Mae McCory of 
Smith Station.
   Visitation will be at Clark Memorial Funeral Parlor on Wednesday, 
Jan. 3, from 10 a.m. 
until 6 p.m. The body will lie in state at the church one hour 
before the service on Thursday. 
The family is receiving friends at the home of Ms. Melvinnie Johnson, 
211 Jackson St., Roanoke.
   Arrangements are by Clark Memorial Funeral Service, Roanoke."
