“Mary Christeen Lane Ware went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 17, 2012, at the end of a tremendous life that spanned 95 years. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Virgil H. Ware, who passed in October, 2011. Mary was born to Samuel and Effie May Jones Lane on June 19, 1917, in Jester, OK, and was the lone sister among brothers Noel, Austin and Alvin Leon. The family moved from Jester to Granite, and later to Oklahoma City. Mary briefly worked in Long Beach, CA assembling PT boats for use during World War II. After her real-life stint at “Rosie the Riveter” in California she returned to Oklahoma. While working at Tinker Air Force Base she met and married Virgil Hugh Ware in Shawnee, OK in 1948. Mary and Virgil moved from Shawnee to Midwest City, OK, where they shared the rest of their lives together. During that time, Mary cultivated her natural talents as a master gardener and cook, sharing her own special brand of love throughout her family with a hearty sampling of her annual bumper crop of fresh, home-grown vegetables, and unmatched Christmas Eve special fresh coconut cake. Nothing will replace in our hearts the elegant, gentle grace that was the essence of Mary’s life, a living testimony of the scriptures that teach us love never insists on its own way, yet always prevails. Mary conveyed her love through a warm smile, a gentle touch, a knowing glance, a simple hug, or a departing promise of  ‘I love you more than you’ll ever know.’  Mary is survived by nephews Paul Lane and wife Hettie, Richard Lane and wife Wanda, as well as niece LaVonne Whitney, all of Oklahoma City. She is also survived by Virgil’s brothers, Wendell Ware and wife Frankie, Wayne Ware and wife Mary, all of Shawnee, OK. Additionally, she is survived by Virgil’s sisters, Freda Turner, San Antonio, TX and Helen Gilcrease of Owasso, OK. Mary’s family also includes numerous great nieces and nephews, including David Whitney and wife Katherine, their children Matthew and Lane; Vincent Lane and his daughters Ali and Olivia, their mom Marissa; Richard Edwin Lane and wife Bridgette, all of Oklahoma City. Aunt Mary is also survived by Steve and Cindy Ehart and son Ryan, Overland Park, KS. Mary was blessed to have had the support of Visiting Angels in recent years. Special mention is made of caregivers Teresa, Krystal and Susan. Mary’s life was graced by these women in ways mere words cannot convey. Our special thanks and gratitude go out to them. Mary will be laid to rest alongside Virgil in Arlington Memory Gardens in Midwest City, following services in the Candlewood Chapel at Ford Funeral Service on Friday at 2pm, September 20, 2012, to be led by Dr. Douglas Melton, pastor of Southern Hills Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.”
