“O. M. Ware, Pioneer,
Dies of Pneumonia
Genuine sorrow spread over our city when it was learned that O. M. (Uncle Bud) Ware had passed away last Friday morning. He was stricken ill the previous Saturday night and pneumonia developed, which in a few days caused his death.
In the opinion of Davis citizens, no finer character or better man ever lived here. He came to this section from Athens, Texas, in 1889 and spent the last 40 years of his life within two miles of Davis. About 10 years ago he moved to town but continued his farm work.
Mr. Ware was born in Rock Mart, Ga., Jan. 29, 1852, and moved to Texas with his parents when nine years of age. July 11, 1872, he married Miss Elizabeth Miller, to which union four children were born, namely: Porter and Welcome Ware of this city, Mrs. Maud Fielding of Sulphur and Mrs. Mollie Patterson of Carnegie, Okla. The wife and children survive and all were present when he passed away. He also is survived by one brother, B. Ware of Altus, Okla., and two sisters in Texas.
“Uncle Bud” as he was familiarly called, was a fine type of citizen, a man who practiced the Golden Rule, and whose genial disposition won him countless friends. He was a consecrated man, united with the Baptist church in 1885, had been a member of Davis Baptist church 40 years and a deacon 35 years. The death of such a noble character is a loss not only to the family but to the town and community as well.
The funeral was held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Baptist church and was largely attended. The service was conducted by the pastor, Rev. Leon Julius, assisted by Rev. F. A. Tucker and Rev. J. S. Ferguson. The latter had been a close friend of the deceased for 40 years and paid a glowing tribute to his memory. Interment was in Green Hill cemetery.
Out-of-town relatives attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Fielding, Sulphur; Mrs. Jas. Patterson, Carnegie; B. Ware, Altus; Dr. Tom Ware, Seminole; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wilson and Morris Miller, Lindsay; Mrs. Ernest Meadows, Preston, Tex.; Mrs. Rowe Tinkle, Kingston, Okla.; Perry Ware, Mill Creek; Mr. and Mrs. Olander Ware, San Angelo, Texas; Miss Ora and Cook Ware and Mrs. Roy Ware, Oklahoma City; Melvin Ware, Houston, Texas; Mrs. Uriel Stafford, Owasso, Okla.; Mrs. Harold Offield, Sapulpa; Ernest and Nadine Ware, Altus.
