Judge Johnson Ware Obituary, 1906

“JUDGE JOHNSON WARE – CSA
Died – Judge Johnson Ware died at his home near Vancleave, Miss., Nov 6, 1906. He was born Mar 5, 1833. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Williams on Jan 19, 1861. They lived together more than forty-five years. Six children were the result of the union, all of whom with the mother survive him.
Yes, the death angel came and claimed for his victim the spirit of our most dearly beloved father, friend, and brother. Judge Ware was one of the best men in our country, whose counsel could have been profitably sought by the wisest. Jackson County could not have been what it is without him.
Judge Ware was an old Confederate Soldier, true and loyal to the South. He was a Christian such as one rarely meets. He was sick only a very short time. When he was taken ill his family physician, Dr S.R. Ratliff was sent for, who gave him every attention.
The funeral took place at the family home and was conducted by his pastor, Rev G.W. McGowan. His remains were borne to the family graveyard by six old Confederate comrades, namely, Messers. Willis Broadus, T.Q. Roberts, Garner Roberts, G.W. Tootle, Albert Goff and Mr McGowan. A large concourse of relatives and friends attended and mingled their tears with the bereaved family.
His ever true friend,
C.J. Phillips
Vancleave, Miss.”
