Raymond Paul Ware, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully from this world on March 24, 2011. One of six children, Ray was born on October 5, 1922, to Augustus Hardie Ware and Mary Mattingly Ware in Glendale, Arizona. He entered the Navy and served throughout WWII in Italy and North Africa. Ray received his Civil Engineering degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1950. In 1954, Ray married Maureen Christina Trehearne of British Columbia, and they moved to Oakland, California. Ray had a successful career leading large civil engineering projects throughout the world, including construction of the Volta River Dam in Ghana, the Anglesey Aluminum plant in Wales, and the Argyle Diamond Mine in Kimberly, Australia that is still the world’s largest single producer of diamonds. He lived throughout the world with his family.
Ray and Maureen primarily resided, when not abroad on a construction project, in Lafayette, California. He spent many happy years with his family and worked in his beautiful garden, which included over 100 rose bushes. In addition to his garden, Ray loved music, the outdoors, cooking, photography, and his two dogs, Tarka and Zachary. In 2007, Ray and Maureen moved to Houston, to be near his eldest daughter, Hilary. Ray will be remembered as a wise man with a kind soul who overcame many adversities in his life through his sheer personal strength, courage, and resilience.
Ray is survived by his wife, Maureen; two daughters, Hilary Ware (Bob Tucker, Houston) and Jennifer Parker (Henrik, Wallingford, Pennsylvania) and four grandchildren: Katherine Parker, Alexandra Tucker, Nathaniel Parker and Austin Tucker. Also, surviving are two brothers, Ralph and James. This family was the true love of his life. His funeral service will be held in the Chapel at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church on Sage at Woodway, Monday, March 28 at 2:00 PM. The service will be followed by a private internment at Forest Park Westheimer. A reception following the internment will be held at the family’s home. The family would like to thank his caregivers, Mr. Ranier, Ariana, Shantal, and Felicia, who so lovingly attended to him.
His family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Sheltering Arms.
