Ware Cemetery, Pontotoc County, Mississippi — 3 Comments

  1. My name is Don Tittle. I live in Blount County, AL. Back in 1972 or 73 I visited family who were living in what I recall them saying was Water Plantation. It was a beautiful old home at the time. I loved having so much room to roam around and explore I guess would be the way to say it. I was wondering now 50 years later if the old home still exists? I had some pictures my mother took back in 72 but I guess I’ve lost them. Thanks and have a good day.

  2. Hi Im Tony McCreight pardon me I was doing some internet researching for a pre civil war House that was once 100 yards from ware toxish cemetery is located and saw you’re Comment .
I actually live 1/8 of a mile from Ware Cemetery on Goodfood road but Yes it’s on Toxish road between Hwy 15 and 41 it’s 3-4 miles from 41. I screenshot those names you were looking for I’ll look this week 5/1/22 there’s alot of history in Toxish area originally Tock’shish was an Indian leader who settled here also the Original old historical Natchez Trace came across this Ridge known as pontotoc ridge also the 2nd post office established between Nashville Tn and Natchez Ms on Natchez Trace by historical records located to the left side of Toxish Church which is another 1 mile west on Toxish road from cemetery this was where the Mail Rider would swap out for a fresh Horse then continue to Natchez Where he would be expected in 7 days. There has also been claims Hernando De’Soto came through on his quest for treasure around 1540ish to associate him in area there has been Spanish artifacts found in the Ingomar Indian mounds north of the town of pontotoc and there are a couple of other Indian mounds only 3 miles straight south of Ware Toxish Cemetery that hasn’t been proven if he came exactly on this ridge but it hasn’t been disproven either and De’Soto did use the Natchez Trace that’s documented . As you can tell I like to know history especially on the Ground I actually live and walk on every day never know what you could Find. I’ll comment again if it lets me of my findings!

  3. My Cousin Jimi/Kay Foglesong told me that our great grandparents Robert & Lela Barnett are located in this cemetery. She used Find A Grave-their memorial numbers are 87326035 & 90262308. I want to make sure I have the correct cemetery. I show this as a Pontotoc, MS not Woodland, MS. Is that correct? They daughter Hattie Barnett Herndon grave is near Shannon, MS on CR 506 just off CR 300/Shannon Rd. I just visited her grave a couple of weeks ago. Would love to visit my great grandparents graves next summer. So I just need to know that this cemetery is off Hwy 41. Thank you for your help. Judy Simonds Shafer
