Katie Bell Williamson Ware Obituary, 2006

ROCK HILL – Mrs. Katie Bell Williamson Ware of 4219 Williamson Road died Friday, Sept. 22, 2006, at Rock Hill Health Care.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at New Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. Donnie D. Dye officiating and the Rev. George H. Lowry Jr. delivering the eulogy. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Ware was a daughter of the late Jerry Williamson and Susie Robinson Williamson. She was a graduate of Emmett Scott High School and attended Friendship Junior College. She was a member of New Zion Baptist Church, where she served as president of the missionary, the ministers, deacons and trustees wives auxiliary and was the church clerk. She was adviser to the usher board and the YWA. She was the first coordinator of New Zions’ Women’s Day Observance. She was a Sunday school teacher and corresponding secretary of the ministers, deacons and trustees auxiliary of the Sandy River Baptist Association, Upper Division. She was a member and former secretary of AP&B Society No. 7. She was former grand president of the Union Aid, was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was the founding member of Daughters of Israel-Chapter No. 313 Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliate, Jurisdiction of the State of South Carolina and served as the Worthy Matron until 1989. She was the widow of Willie Ware Sr.

Surviving are three sons, Willie Ware Jr. and James E. “Ed” Ware, both of Rock Hill, and Larenze B. Ware of the home; two daughters, Patricia W. Brown of Columbia and Betty J. McCrorey of Pomona, Calif.; her brother, George Franklin of Rock Hill; her sister, Ruthie Weathers of Rock Hill; 11 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home. The body may be viewed from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Thursday.
