Elizabeth K Ware Obituary, 1999

PRAIRIE CITY — Elizabeth K. Ware, 97, of Prairie City died at 2:40 a.m. Monday, July 26, 1999, at Prairie City Nursing Center.

Born Sept. 4, 1901, in LaHarpe to Earnest and Gesha Helmers Helmers, she married Wallace Ware on June 24, 1930, in Quincy. He died July 3, 1963. Three brothers and three sisters also preceded her in death.

Surviving are one nephew, Keith Robbins of Wapello, Iowa; one grandnephew; and two grandnieces.

A member of the Retired Postmasters, she was a postmaster in Ellisville from October 1940 until retiring Sept. 31, 1971. She also worked at Mason’s Drygood Store in LaHarpe and several variety stores in her early years.

She was a member of Stronghurst United Methodist Church. She also was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Ellisville and Modern Woodmen.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Corman Memorial Home in Avon, where calling hours will be from noon today until time of services. The Rev. Jessie Pestle will officiate. Burial will be in LaHarpe Cemetery in LaHarpe.

Memorials may be made to Prairie City Nursing Center.

  1. I sure remember Mrs. Ware. She was always such a sweet lady. She always seemed happy. I had known her every since I was a small child. Elizabeth once bought me a Tammy doll for my birthday. Im thinking she did that for almost all the children in Ellisville.
