Laura Lynne (Carpenter) Ware, 54, of Bemidji, died Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Neilson Place in Bemidji.

A memorial service was at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Bemidji. Burial of cremated remains will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Bemidji.

She was born April 19, 1954, to Lawrence “Pat” and Thelma “Dutchie” Carpenter in Bemidji. She grew up in Bemidji and attended Bemidji High School. She married Thomas Michael Ware in 1973; they were later divorced. She attended Bemidji State University for a few years. Her greatest contribution was her work with the White Earth Land Settlement Act. She was a successful grant writer for the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe and received recognition for her work there. She was a creative artist. Her art was exhibited in studios and museums.

She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and family.

She is survived by a daughter, Chelsea Ari Anita Susanna Batchelder of Bemidji; son, Jesse William Michael Ware of Cass Lake; two grandchildren; sisters, Kathleen “Penny” (Arnie) Olson of Bemidji, Suzanne Loftus of Bemidji, Connie Carpenter of Cass Lake and Leah J. Carpenter of Bemidji; brother, Michael (Jennifer) Garbow of Bemidji; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
