“CHICAGO LETTER.

BY REV. E. N. WARE, D.D.

Chicago Presbytery held its August stated meeting in the Fourth Church .chapel on Aug. 7. There was a meager attendance, owing no doubt to the fact that many of the pastors and others are away from the city on vacation. The pastoral relation was dissolved between Rev. Earl C. Morgan and the Libertyville Church, that he might accept the call of the Seventh Church. Rev. Morton W. Merrell was released from the St. Anne Church to enable him to take up work at Campbell Park Church and Rev. C. M. Davis was released from the Immanuel Church and dismissed to the Presbytery of Elizabeth, to accept the call of the First Church of Rahway, N. J. Two young men were examined and taken under care of the presbytery in preparation for the ministry. They came from the Fourth Church, thus adding to the already large number now under care of the presbytery who have .come from Dr. Stone’s congregation. Dr. Vale was made chairman of the committee to examine the minutes of the General Assembly. Rev. Elisha A. Hoffman, at this own request, was placed on the honorably retired list. Presbytery made the occasion a time of congratulations upon this venerable father’s completion of sixty years in the ministry at the age of eightythree. A committee was appointed to arrange a time when presbytery might have a review of his services and sing some of his many Gospel hymns. The Moderator, with the Clerk, and Rev. Norman B. Barr, representing the Social Service Department, and Rev. B. M. Brown, were instructed by presbytery to send a telegram to President Harding commending him in his efforts to give the whole people a fair deal in the industrial strike settlements, together with assurances of the prayers of the presbytery.

Rev. George B. Laird, pastor of Norwood Park Church, will preach in the pulpit of Lagrange Church for Dr. Allen, pastor, and in Normal Park for the pastor, Rev. R. O. Thomas, during his vacation month. Rev. Harry Swan supplies Norwood Park.”
