“CAIRO ON THE ALERT.
No “Yellow Jack” ‘Will Do Allowed to Enter There.
Cairo is ‘taking precautionary
measures to keep out the “Yellow
Jack”. The “Argus” savs:
The yellow fever will never be allowed
to enter the state of Illinois,
if the government of this commonwealth
can prevent it. The alarming
appearance of that dread pest in the
extreme South bodes no good to us
here, if the present torrid weather
continues’, inasmuch as Cairo is the
point through which the bulk of the
fugitives will pass in fleeing north.
Chairman Kagan, of the State
Board of Health, has appointed Dr.
John D. Ware, of the Chicago Board
of Health, Dr. John R. Neeley, of
Chicago, and Dr. E. P. Bartlett, of
Springfield, who, with another physician
yet to be named, will inspect all
railroads and steamboats entering
Cairo, and, if necessary, establish a
quarantine. Drs. Ware nnd Neeley
arrived last night, and will start to
work today, when they will be
joined by Dr. Hartlett and theother
physician. The last legislature appropriated
$10,000 for the State
Board of Health, and, if necessary,
this entire sum will be spent at Cairo
in keeping out the fever.”
