Religious meetings were first held on the Sabbath, at the house of Mr. Caleb Forbes.  The first meeting house was subsequently erected, about ten rods south-easterly of the present one.  The first Congregational Church was organized in Jul, 1778, …Jonathan Ware, …Jonathan Ware were appointed the deacons of the church.”
