A vacancy caused by the resignation on April 30 of Mrs. Bruce McC. Howe was filled from May 1 to May 15 by Mr. William R. Gibson and since May 16 by Mr. Lowry P. Ware.

In response to a request from the State Reorganization Commission of South Carolina, a careful study was made of the needs of the department in the way of internal organization. It was recommended that four divisions be established, namely, Administration, Reference, Preservation and Duplication, and Publication. A thorough application of this arrangement must be delayed until the size of the staff can be increased and necessary equipment procured. In the meantime, however, the members of the staff have been reclassified, and in two cases arrangements have been made for individuals to receive training for additional duties. The new titles were approved in the Appropriation Act for 1950-51 as follows: …
