OF THE WOMAN’S ART CLUB OF
THE COOPER UNION.

The Woman’s Art Club of the Cooper Union, although not showing what can be called a marked increase in its sphere of work, has yet proven during the past year, its necessary and even vital share in the numberless activities of Cooper Union.

To those who do not know of the great importance of the Lunch Room to the students of the Woman’s Art School, it should be explained that this is one of the most useful branches of the work of the Club. The value of this important department does not need to be explained to those students who, after a hard morning’s work, look forward to an equally strenuous afternoon, and are saved the discomfort of seeking their lunch outside in all kinds of weather.

During most of the past year, owing to a curtailment in the afternoon lecture-courses, the scarcity of money and the increased cost of supplies, the Lunch Room has been practically running at a loss, having repaid only $15.00 of the $50.00 appropriated by the Club.

It has been suggested, for another year, that a separate room be set aside for the use of those students who do not purchase from the Lunch Room. In this way, it is believed, better service can be given by the Club, with a consequent gain in patronage and income.

Much to the regret of all who have the interests of the Club at heart, this year brought an unwelcome, but none the less inevitable change in the official staff of the Association. Miss F. Maud Melvin, who for two years has been the chief executive officer of the Club, and who has done so much by the strength of her personality and by her charm of manner to advance its influence, this February reached the limit set for the office of President.
