“Ralph M. Ware Jr. and Louis B. Russell November 24, 1968. Ware (1928-1997)… first director of development for both MCV and VCU assisted with media relations in the early years of the heart transplant program. War congratulated Russell (1925-1974), an industrial arts teacher from Indianapolis, Indiana and the MCV’s second heart transplant recipient, following his August 24 operation. Russell lived longer than any other heart transplant patient, bringing public recognition to the MCV Hospital program.”
