“Richard Miles Ware, 91, passed away September 2, 2011. Visitation will be 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm Wednesday, September 7 at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Richard was born December 12, 1919 in Cement, OK. Dick had many close friends in the 1937 class of Westport High School. He later attended junior college. As an officer candidate, he entered the cavalry at Ft. Leavenworth in 1942. Very soon the army became mechanized. He retired from the Air Force Reserve as a full Colonel in 1974. He was director of material at the 442nd Military Airlift Wing at Richards Gebaur Air Force Base. Post WWII, Dick was a sales and promotion representative for RCA, Capitol and Columbia records. He was a great favorite with his customers and all the artists. For his retirement, he was given a huge celebration at the Uptown Theatre. Richard was also an avid aerial tennis player at the Kansas City Athletic Club. Preceding Richard in death was his brother, Francis Ware of Salt Lake City and sister, Marietta Langner of Kansas City. He married Claudia Paris in 1950. He leaves Claudia and his two sons, Mark Ware of Breckenridge, CO and Bradley Ware and wife, Nancy of Shawnee Mission, KS. Brad and Nancy have two sons, Brenton at Kansas State graduate school and Brandon Ware, a midshipman in the ROTC program at Kansas University. Dick spent his summers in the cool Colorado mountains at a place named Green Mountain Falls. He summited Pike’s Peak multiple times including two Pike’s Peak marathons.
