The Presbyterian Church of Granville, was organized April 27, 1839.  On that day George W. Elliot, of Lowell, James H. Dickey, of Union Grove and Mr. Spalding, of Peoria, who had previously been appointed by the Peoria Presbytery for the purpose, met at a house in Granville.  With them were associated… Lucinda A. Ware…Hannah Ware.  These latter named persons were admitted to take part in the organization by reason of their being members in good standing in the Church, each of them producing letters of dismissal or other satisfactory evidence to the effect.  After the usual preliminary exercises were had the meeting organized.  James Mears and Ralph Ware were chosen Ruling Elders, whose terms of office were to continue until September 3, next ensuing, and John Pool and Thomas Ware were chosen to the same office, their terms to begin on the expiration of the time for which their predecessors were chosen.”
