“Orval C. “Decker” Ware, 87, departed this life at 7 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at his residence at Route 3, Belington.

He was born May 24, 1917, the son of the late Herbert C. and Rosie Belle Swick Ware.

On Sept. 28, 1937, he was united in marriage to the former Alma K. Harris, who survives at their home in Belington. They had been married for 66 years.

Mr. Ware is also survived by one daughter, Mary Belle Ware Phillips and husband, Burley, and one son, Robert L. Ware and wife, Charlet, all of Route 3, Belington; and one sister, Oma Ware Hutzler of Junior.

Also surviving are three granddaughters, Debbie K. Johnson and husband, Jeff, Diane K. White and husband, Eddie, and Donna J. Phillips; three grandsons, David L. Phillips and wife, Dee Dee, Lt. James E. Ware and wife, Heather, and Jeffrey L. Ware and wife, Faith; eight great-grandsons, Jason Johnson, Jeremy White, Joshua and Justin Phillips, Jonathan, Matthew, Nathaniel and Timothy Ware; one great-granddaughter, Charity Ware, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Chester L. Ware; and one sister, Elsie Ware Currence.

Mr. Ware was a 1936 graduate of Belington High School, and was a retired coal miner after 23 years. He was a regular visitor at the Belington Senior Center where he served as president for several terms and where he enjoyed playing cards and socializing with friends.

He was involved in other organizations such as the Southern States Cooperative and the Barbour County Fair Association. He attended the Weaver Church of the Nazarene.

Mr. Ware will always be remembered as a man who loved the Lord, his family and the many friends he met along the way. He was a respected and responsible leader in his family, in the community and in his church.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Although the casket will be closed, friends may still call Thursday until 11 a.m., the funeral hour, when services will be conducted from the Talbott Chapel with the Rev. Doyle Neil Rider and the Rev. F.L. “Wink” McQuain officiating.

Interment will follow in the Fraternal Cemetery in Belington. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of contributions to Mountain Hospice, Crim Avenue, Belington. The Talbott Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Orval C. “Decker” Ware.”
