Charles McDonald “Chuck” Ware Sr., 91, of Chillicothe, died 8:50 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2018 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born September 11, 1926, in Chillicothe, Ohio, to the late Thomas A. Sr. and Phyllis Snyder Ware. On September 10, 1955, he married the love of his life, the former Alice Fulton Brownell who survives. Also surviving are children, Dr. Charles M. (Liz) Ware, Jr., Col. US Army Reserves, of South Bend, IN, Alice “Lissy” (Kevin) Barber of Prescott, AZ, Laura (Bob) Babbitt of Cincinnati, OH, Phyllis (Scott) Lienhardt of Cincinnati, OH, and Dr. David (Kathy) Ware of Findlay, OH; grandchildren, Noel (Justin) Collins, Chad (Katie) Ware, T.J. (Amber) Ware, Ryan Barber, Erin (Dan) Lee, John (Breanna) Barber, Dan Barber, Luke (Kara) Babbitt, Layne Babbitt, Leah Babbitt, Mark Lienhardt, Shawn Lienhardt, Carey Ware, Curtis Ware and Griffin Ware; 6 great grandchildren; a sister, Nancy Heath of Columbus; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Col. Thomas A. Ware, US Army, Ret. and a sister Beatrice Evans. Chuck was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served on the Board of Deacons and then Board of Trustees. He was a 1944 graduate of Chillicothe High School, attended The Ohio State University and served in the US Army during World War II in the Philippines and later with the US Occupation Forces in Japan. After returning from Japan, he graduated in 1950 from Miami University, Ohio with a Bachelor Degree in Business and also graduated from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1950 with an Associate Degree in Mortuary Science. He was a life member of VFW Post 108, a life member of American Legion Post 62, and a life member of B.P.O.E. Lodge 52. Chuck served on the Board of Directors for the Ross County YMCA, Children’s Services, Goodwill Industries, Salvation Army and the former BancOhio. He was a former Chairman of the American Heart Association’s Local Heart Fund Drive. Charles was the third generation of his family to own and operate the WARE FUNERAL HOME which was founded in Chillicothe by his grandfather, Carey J. Ware in 1891. He joined the firm in 1950 as a partner with his father, Thomas A. Ware until his death in 1964. Chuck has been the owner and operator of the funeral home for over 60 years. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2018 in the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Jason Link, his longtime friend Rev. Jack Norman and Rev. James W. Grove officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 4-8 p.m. Thursday. Robert Louis Ware, age 71, of Lawrenceburg, TN passed away Saturday, June 18, 2016 at NHC Healthcare of Scott in Lawrenceburg, TN. He was a native of Boston, MA, and retired manager with Frito Lay. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Robert Louis Falcione, Sr. and Mary Irene Breen Ware.

Alexandria, VA — (Ret) James Alan Ware, Jr., age 83, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Alexandria Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Ware is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanne Ware, stepdaughter, Crystal Mroz and husband, Gerald Mroz; five daughters: Debra Ware, Janet Bennett and husband Mel Bennett, Rebecca Yarbrough and husband Michael Yarbrough, Mary Castaneda and husband Ruben Castaneda, and Pamela Ware. He also leaves behind two step grandchildren, MacKenzie Johnson and Jack Johnson; five grandchildren, Ben Bennett, Janelle Bennett, James Bennett, Rachel Castaneda, and great grandchild, Pierce Bennett; sister, Jeannine Macaluso; and nieces and nephews, Phillip Macaluso, Jr., Kay LeBouef, Michael Macaluso and Vincent Macaluso. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Nell Ware, stepdaughter, Cynthia Johnson, brother-in-law, Phillip Macaluso, Sr., and his first wife, Dorothy Ware.

He was born in Detroit, Michigan, and later moved as a child with his family to New Orleans Louisiana. He was a 1953 Graduate of Warren Easton Charter High School.

James served over 22 years in the U.S. Army. He was a Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, where he earned several medals, including the Bronze Star, the Air Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal and the Code of Conduct medal. He was proud of serving his country and being an American, and a Vet, and will be remembered for his storytelling at his favorite Old Town hangouts. He was affectionately known for being the pedestrians’ friend, keeping tourists and drivers in line at crosswalks. He knew Old Town like the back of his hand such as his favorite places Murphy’s Irish Pub, Pat Troy’s, Joe Thiemann’s, among many other neighborhood stops.

After retiring from the U.S. Army, he worked as a government contractor for several years, and retired in March 2000 from Pentagon Federal Credit Union in Old Town, Alexandria as a Forms Analyst. He graduated with honors in the early 1970’s with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas.

Visitation will be held this Saturday, July 28, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home & Cremations, 1500 W. Braddock Rd., Alexandria, VA 22302, and will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery with honors at a future time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests all gifts be made to the Mayo Clinic, Boystown (Douglas County, Nebraska), or any Veterans assistance organization.

Kathleen Frances Smith Highfill Ware Obituary, 2019

Kathleen Frances (Smith Highfill) Ware, aged 73 of Virginia Beach, VA passed out of this world and into the next in the early morning hours of May 8th, 2019.

Kathy was born in Richmond, VA and was adopted by C. Stewart and Frances (Bratton) Smith of Falls Church, VA. She grew up there and graduated from George Mason High School in 1964. She loved to sing and was in the choir both at school and at Crossman United Methodist Church on Lee Highway. She worked as a secretary for the Surgeon General’s office after graduation. She married James Edwin Highfill in 1968 and moved to Woodbridge, VA.doun Co Vo

She had two daughters, Valerie Frances (Highfill) Sumpter and Jennifer Elaine Highfill. The family moved to Sterling, VA in 1975 and remained there for a long time. She attended the Loudoun County Vocational-Technical school and graduated from the Nursing program there, receiving her Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) degree in 1984. She used that degree well, working at many local medical establishments including Loudoun Hospital Center, Loudoun Internal Medicine Associates, Oncology/Hematology of Loudoun and Reston, various home health care programs, and for private patients through the rest of her life.

After James passed away in 1995, she was reunited with Robert Nathan Ware of Leesburg, VA (they had dated when she was in high school) and they married in December of 1996. They lived in Sterling until he retired, and moved with Jennifer to Cape Cod (Brewster), MA. They all subsequently moved to Paragould, AR to be near extended family and then returned again to Virginia in December 2016, settling in Virginia Beach.

Kathy is survived by her loving husband Robert N. Ware, her daughter Valerie (David) Sumpter, her daughter Jennifer Highfill, her sister-in-law Cheryl Rollins, her brother-in-law Timothy D. Rodgers, her nephews Cory Smith, Kyle Smith, Todd Smith, and Donald Sellers, her nieces Dawn Calcote, Cara Trittipoe-McReynolds, Amy Trittipoe Keene, Laura Trittipoe, several great-nephews and great-nieces, numerous beloved cousins, and a stubtailed cat named PeggySue.

Memorial service details are yet to be determined.

<p id=Charlene Prejean, 85, of Lake Charles, LA passed away on Monday, August 20, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.

Charlene was born on July 16, 1933 in Hannibal, MO, and moved to Lake Charles when she was a young girl. Charlene graduated from Saint Charles Academy in 1951.

Charlene married William “Buddy” Prejean and they were blessed with three children; Leon, Karen and Eva. She had a great love for entertaining and cooking for her family. Sunday meals included her signature dishes of cornbread dressing, chicken and dumplings, and macaroni and cheese.

She was an active member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and volunteered her time by giving Holy Communion to those in need. When she was not cooking for her family, she enjoyed socializing and playing cards alongside her dear friends. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren unconditionally.

Charlene is preceded in death by her husbands; William “Buddy” Prejean of 50 years, and Eddie Austin, Sr., whom she met and married at the sweet age of 80 years young. She is also preceded by her parents, Floyd “Paw” Ware and Mary “Dolly” Ware, three sisters, Ruth Nunez, Nell Fontenot and Margie LeBleu along with an infant son, Mark Prejean.

Charlene is survived by her three children, Leon (Robin) Prejean, Karen (John) Cardone and Eva (Grant) Price; her grandchildren, Blake (Ashley) Price, Brittani (Ben) Stine, Brooke (Turney) Chaumont, John Cardone III, Kristen Cardone, Kathryn Cardone, Danielle (Fred) Clarke, Zachary Prejean, Justin (Brittany) Fontenot and Garret Fontenot; her great-grandchildren; Marleigh George, Emma Kate and William Stine, Everett and Rosemary Ann Price, Dillion and Sawyer Clarke and Jayden and Braizlynn Fontenot, Lennox Fontenot and Layna and Gage Prejean. She also has one more great-grandchild on the way. Charlene also leaves numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church officiated by Father Keith Pellerin. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.

Bertha Lou Ware Obituary, 2018

RINGGOLD — Bertha Lou “Granny” Ware, passed away Friday, Sept. 7, 2018.

She was born June 26

1927, to the late B.B. and Mattie Ware. She was a faithful member of the Apison Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and family quartet. She was a member of the L.L.L. Sunday school class.

She retired from Catoosa Board of Education after working as a substitute teacher for 31 years. She enjoyed working with students and loved each one. She was an avid flower and vegetable gardener. She worked as a seamstress for many years and also enjoyed working as a poll worker.

Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, David L. Ware; sister, Rebecca Cusumano; and brothers, B.B., J.C., and W.W. Ware.

She is survived by her daughters, Betty Lou and Sarah Jane Ware; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Ringgold, Ga. Funeral services will be Monday, Sept. 10, 2018, at 2 p.m. with Dr. Leroy Spinks officiating. Interment will follow at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.

CARLTON HAMES WARE, age 75, of Little Rock, died peacefully Sept. 5, 2018. He was born Aug. 20, 1943 in Pine Bluff, Ark.

Hames graduated from Henderson State University and received a Master’s Degree in Speech and Communication from the University of Arkansas – Fayetteville. He taught school for several years in Pine Bluff. Hames then worked as Education Coordinator for Youth Home Inc., where he took great pleasure in helping the students to be more successful in school. For many years, Hames worked doing radio and television voice-overs, for both local and national audiences, specializing in character voices. In 2012, Hames retired from Central Arkansas Library System, where he trained and mentored many Pages over the years. Hames was recognized nationally as an authority on comic book art and artists. He co-edited the Who’s Who of American Comic Books and contributed to countless other publications. Shortly before his death, he donated his extensive archive to the Comics Collection in Columbia University’s Rare Book and Manuscript Library, where it will be available for research to the global community of scholars.

Hames was an extremely loyal friend and maintained many lifelong friendships. He was a prolific correspondent and was always solicitous of others, eager to help. An avid learner, he immersed himself in whatever subject he became interested in. Hames always maintained his optimistic outlook and sense of wonder, particularly of the natural world. His sense of humor and storytelling gift brought joy to all who knew him. He was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marjorie Frances (Hames) Ware and Carlton Victor Ware Jr., and his brother, Allan Robert Ware.

He is survived by his sister, Lynne Clifton.

There will be a service for Hames at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 12415 Cantrell Road, Little Rock, Ark. 72223 at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, followed by a reception.
