“Peter Grant the father of William C. Grant, was born in Lyme about 1786 and was reared upon a farm which included Grant’s Island in the Connecticut river. His advantages were limited yet included the opportunity of attendance at the common schools. He was married at Thetford Bow to Dorothy Ware, who was born at Thetford Bow, Orange county, Vermont, a town on the west bank of the Connecticut river, nearly opposite Lyme, New Hampshire. Her parents were Joseph and Sarah (Davis ) Ware. Following the marriage Peter and Dorothy Grant lived for some time near Lyme Green and afterward went to Orelans county, Vermont, where Peter Grant died when about forty years of age. Six years afterward his widow became the wife of Raymond Hale and subsequently removed with her husband and children to Mr. Hale’s family home in Chelsea, Vermont.
