HISTORY.  Exact name of common carrier making this report.  Ware Rive Railroad Company.

Date of Organization.  June 12, 1873.

Under laws of what Government, State or Territory organized?  Massachusetts.  Approved April 21, 1873.

If a consolidated company, name the consolidated companies.  Give reference to charters of each, and all amendments of same.  None.  Date and authority for each consolidation.  None.

If a reorganized company, give name of the original corporation and refer to laws under which it was organized.  Ware River Railroad Company, Massachusetts Laws, March 16, 1867.

The Ware Rive Railroad Company was organized under Act of Legislature of Massachusetts, dated March 16, 1867.  In accordance with the provisions of an Act of the Legislature of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts approved April 21, 1873, entitled ‘An Act to authorize the purchasers of the franchise of the Ware River Railroad Company to organize and complete the road’ the bondholders of the Ware River Railroad Company purchased the franchise and organized as the Ware River Railroad Company.  What carried operated the road of this company?  The New York Central & Hudson River Railroad Company, leasee.”

  1. The Ware River Railroad takes its name from the river. The railroad exited from Palmer to the northwest then turning to the east passing thru Throndike. It continued northeast to Ware, on to Gilbetville, Barre Plains, Barre then turning north the railroad continued to Baldwinsville were it crossed the Boston & Maine and on to Winchendon. Hope this helps.

  2. I’m wondering if the name; “Ware River Railroad Company” was picked out of the air or for the family name Ware or did it run to or through the borrough of Ware, Massauchsetts. Interesting article.
