Robert Ware graduated from Harvard as a physician in 1852. He joined the 45th Massachusetts Volunteers as a surgeon, and died of typhoid fever at Little Washington, NC while providing medical care to wounded and sick from his own regiment as well as to newly freed slaves in the region.
