" William Fred Ashley, 78, died Saturday, Jan. 19,
 2002.

   Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Church of 
Christ at Melrose with Otho  Rogers  and  Larenzo  
Gardunio officiating.  Burial  will be in Melrose 
Cemetery by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.

   Mr.  Ashley  married Norma Ware on June 1, 1943, 
in Melrose. He served in the Navy during World War 
II.

   Survivors  include  his wife; three sons, Gary 
Ashley and Jeff Ashley, both of Clovis, and Mike 
Ashley of Texico; three sisters, Annie Bryant of 
Sherman, Texas, Geneva Pirtle of Brasstown, N.C.,
and Louise Greene of  Janesville, Calif.; a brother,
Tom Ashley of Tranton, Texas; seven grandchildren; 
and three great-grandchildren."
