“Madras resident Jerold “Cherokee Jerry” Ware died May 27, 2004, at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. He was 63.
Mr. Ware was born Sept. 12, 1940, in Independence, Mo., to parents Lawrence and Eleneta M. (Drane) Ware. At the age of 6 he moved to Danville, Calif., and graduated from high school there.
In his early 20s, he began playing piano as an entertainer. In the entertainment industry he was known as “Cherokee Jerry” and preformed throughout the greater Northwest, Alaska and New Orleans. He worked as a photographer for the Sheridan Sun from 1986 to 1987.
His special interests included fishing, boating and he was captain of a commercial fishing boat in Alaska.
He is survived by his friend, Jack Gehien of Madras; and fiance, Suzie Frazier of Madras.
A memorial service, officiated by Rev. Al Hulbert, will be held at 1 p.m., June 5, at the Gateway Inn, 300 W. First St., Culver. A private burial will be at the Amity Cemetery in Amity, Ore. Arrangements are under the direction of Macy and Son Funeral Directors in McMinnville.”
