“Joseph Elwood Ware passed away at the Miami (FL) Veterans Hospital on January 4, 2000 after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Ware was a 24 year veteran of the United States Army, retiring from service in 1963 at Ft. Knox, KY. During his military career, he attained the rank of Sergeant First Class and served tours of duty in Germany, Japan, Korea and in the United States. He was awarded the Purple Heart during his service in World War II and another during the Korean War.
Originally from Wilmington, DE, he moved to Miami in 1963 after his retirement and was employed for 15 years by Miami-Dade County as the Zoo Dietician in charge of the kitchen at the Metro Zoo. Mr. Ware was a member of High Noon Lodge #38, AF & AM, Newport, DE.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nina Thomas Ware, his son, Roy Joseph Ware & daughter-in-law, Dalia Ware, all of Miami. He is also survived by his brother, Tom Ware, and sister, Becky Knox, both of Wilmington.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 8th, at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Arrangements by Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes. For 24-hr. funeral info, 368-3262.”
