Mrs. Ware had been a social worker at Head Star in Lawrence until she became disabled about 20 years ago.
She was born May 22, 1938, in Lawrence, the daughter of Albert and Daisy Mae Wright. She was a lifelong Lawrence resident.
Mrs. Ware was a member of St. Luke’s AME Church and the Charmettes Club in Lawrence.
She married Bernard Ware in December 1979. He died in May 1999.
Survivors include three daughters, Cheryl D. Smith, Columbia, Tenn., Talonna Reed and Madonna Reed, both of Lawrence; a son, William Wright, Dallas; a sister, Peggy Vann, Kansas City, Mo.; two half-brothers, Aaron Wright, Lawrence, and Alan Wright, Portland, Ore.; five half-sisters, Alberta Wright, Annola Charity, April Wright, Anita Wright and Alisa Wright, all of Lawrence; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke’s AME Church in Lawrence. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence. Mrs. Ware will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.”
