“DELBERT H. (SKINNY) WARE 81, OF 208 THAYER ST., GRAFTON, DIED WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 1995, AT HIS RESIDENCE.
HE WAS BORN IN RANDOLPH COUNTY ON MARCH 24, 1914, THE SON OF THE LATE DIXIE HARLAN AND ALICE MARY CHANNELL WARE.
HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS WIFE, SUSAN KATHRYN WARE, WHO DIED IN 1979.
HE IS SURVIVED BY TWO DAUGHTERS, JUDITH SUE LAMBERT AND HUSBAND MICHAEL R. LAMBERT OF KNOXVILLE, TENN AND PATRICIA ANN GORDON AND HUSBAND THOMAS G. GORDON OF RICHMOND, VA; THREE SONS THOMAS HOWARD WARE AND WIFE SUSAN WARE, TIMOTHY WARE, AND JAMES MICHAEL WARE AND WIFE MELINDA WARE ALL OF GRAFTON; FIVE BROTHERS DARLEY WARE AND GLEN WARE OF VALLEY HEAD, PAUL WARE OF ELKINS, DICK WARE OF TALMADGE, OH AND JERRY WARE OF FT. LAUDERDALE, FLA.; ONE SISTER, RETA SWECKER OF VALLEY HEAD; NINE GRANDCHILDREN, THOMAS PATRICK GORDON OF CARY, N.C. MICHAEL PAUL LAMBERT OF KNOXVILLE, TENN. SUSAN ELIZABETH MOORE OF HIGH POINT N.C. AND RYAN THOMAS WARE, JAMES HOWARD WARE, JOSHUA HOWARD WARE, KATHRYN BROOKS WARE, ADAM MICHAEL WARE AND LUCAS AARON WARE ALL OF GRAFTON; ONE GREAT GRANDDAUGHTER ELIZABETH KATHRYN MOORE OF HIGH POINT N.C. AND SEVERAL NIECES AND NEPHEWS.
HE WAS A U.S. VETERAN OF WORLD WAR 11 AND THE KOREAN CONFLICT. HE SERVED IN THE CCC FROM 1933-34 AND 1936-37. HE OWNED AND OPERATED WARE’S BARBER SHOP FOR MANY YEARS IN GRAFTON. HE RECIEVED THE “HEROISM AWARD” FOR SAVING HAYWARD CROSS FROM DROWNING AND WAS A MEMBER OF THE MEMORIAL CITY POST #3081 VFW OF GRAFTON. HE WAS A PROTESTANT BY FAITH. DONALD G FORD FUNERAL HOME IN CHARGE OF ARRANGEMENTS INTERMENT IN THE WOODSDALE MEMORIAL PARK, GRAFTON WV.”
