“Edward Franklin Ware Sr., 89, of Hampton, died on Wednesday, March 15, 2000.
He was a native of Newport News. He retired in 1977 as a printer from Franklin Printing Co.
He graduated from Newport News High School in 1929, and was the editor of the Beacon at Newport News High from 1928-29. He was a Scoutmaster of Troop No. 3 at Orcutt Baptist Church from 1932-34, was on the executive committee of the Peninsula Council Boy Scouts of America, and earned the Silver Beaver award for adults. He was a first aid instructor for the Red Cross from 1939-85. He helped form the Wythe Rescue Squad in 1939, was the Wythe Fire Chief from 1943-47, was editor of the Virginia Fireman from 1956-77, and was a member of the Peninsula Retired Men’s Club from 1978-89. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Newport News.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret L. Ware; son, Edward F. Ware Jr., and his wife, Frances, of Hampton; daughter, Margaret Ellen Parton, and her husband, the Rev. George Parton, of Portsmouth; a sister, Mary Leftwich of Gloucester; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, at Grace Episcopal Church, Newport News, by the Rev. Peter Schoen. Burial will be in Peninsula Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, March 17, at Riverside Funeral Home Chapel.
