POWNAL – Caroline J. “Connie” Ware, 79, died July 15, 2008, at Vermont Veterans Home, following a long illness. Born in Bennington on Aug. 18, 1928, she was the daughter of Martin and Marion (Burt) Cutler, and received her education in local schools. She married Gordon E. Ware on Sept. 17, 1949, in Williamstown. During World War II, Mrs. Ware was employed at Thomson Manufacturing and EZ Mills. For 19 years, she worked as a bartender at Cozy Corner Restaurant in Williamstown. She was also employed in the clubhouse at Green Mountain Race Track, at Mount Anthony Country Club and Pownal Dairy Bar. She was a founding member of American Legion Post 90 Auxiliary in Pownal and a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Bennington and the Senior Center in Pownal. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking beans and pies. Survivors include her husband of Pownal; two daughters, Gail Deery of Warwick, R.I., and Leslie Messina of Pownal; two sons, Burt Ware of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Kenneth Ware of Bennington; two sisters, Joan Ryan of Bennington and Patricia Knights of Manchester; a brother, Robert Cutler of Florida; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Ware was predeceased by a son, Francis Ware, in 1959; a brother and two sisters, Burt Cutler, Isabelle Gates and Beatrice Gauthier. The funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 21, at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington with the Rev. Rogers, pastor of North Pownal Congregational Church, officiating. At her request, there will be no calling hours. Burial will take place in Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown, Mass.
