Dorothy Elizabeth (Ware) Smithson, 96, of Duluth, died on Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, In her daughter’s home. She was born March 23, 1914, in Minneapolis to Abraham and Melina Ware. Dorothy was employed at the Loop Foods in Lakeside for several years. She was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church for over 60 years. Dorothy had a sparkle in her eye and a zest for life, she was always ready and willing for a visit with friends or to go on a trip. Her smile was contagious and her kind words made people of all ages feel special. She had a passion for being involved with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; her son in-law, James Shubitz; and her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son, James (Rita) Smithson of Eden Prairie, Minn.; their children, Mark (Michell) Smithson and children, Nicole, Jacquelyn and Jake; Michael (Julie) Smithson and their children, Tyler, Jenna and Brynn; Michelle Smithson; Dorothy’s daughter, Lynn Shubitz of Duluth; her children, Timothy (Emily) Shubitz, their children, Olive and Evie; Christopher (Stephanie) Shubitz their child, Sidney; Matthew Shubitz; Scott (Winnie) Shubitz, their children, Jameson and Harrison; her sister, Virginia Fell of Minneapolis; several nieces and nephews; her special friends, Penny Jackson, Deb Lieberg and Connie Gultekin. VISITATION: 5-7 p.m. Thursday with a prayer service at 5 p.m. in the Dougherty Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation continues at 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial Friday in St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
