WARE, Mary Alyce MARY ALYCE (DEE DEE) WARE Miss Mary Alyce (Dee Dee) Ware of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on January 7, 2014, at her home in Atlanta, Georgia, at the age of 83. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas Gourrier and Alyce Wright Ware, 3 brothers Thomas G. Ware, Edward W. Ware, and Charles S. Ware, and her sister Carmelita (Betty) Crawley. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Mary Alyce graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1949 and from H. Sophie Newcomb Memorial College in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1953, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She had a lengthy career at The Life Insurance Company of Georgia, at which she was the first female in the company to be promoted to the position of Travelling Auditor. She enjoyed a distinguished career until her retirement in 1979. Mary Alyce enjoyed the company of her many nieces and nephews, taking them on numerous vacations and weekend trips to beaches and lakes while they were growing up. She later enjoyed spending time with her great nieces and nephews. She was very close to her neighbors in Virginia Highland, where she was a lifetime and well-loved resident. An accomplished embroiderer and seamstress, Aunt Dee Dee made many beautiful pieces for family, close friends and acquaintances alike. She was a lifelong lover of animals and supporter of animal charities. She had many pets (dogs and cats) throughout her life. The family will receive visitors from 7:00 pm through 8:00 pm on Thursday evening, January 9, at Spring Hill. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 11, at H.M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill Chapel, 1020 Spring Street (at Spring and 10th Street), 404-876-1022. Interment will follow at Crestlawn. Online condolences may be made at hmpattersonspringhill.com.
