SEAFORD – James G. Ware Jr., 70, passed away Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010. James was born in Suffolk and a Peninsula resident for 47 years. James graduated from Suffolk High School in 1957 and Virginia Tech in 1961 with a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering, and was a member of the Highty Tighty Regimental Band of the Corps of Cadets. He also graduated from George Washington University in 1968 with a master’s degree in personnel management. James retired from Newport News Shipbuilding in 2000 after 39 years as a contracts administrator. He was a charter member of the York River Symphony Orchestra, a charter member of the York River Concert Band, a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the National Rifle Association. James was preceded in death by his parents, James Gilmore and Faye Cross Ware; and a sister, Barbara Ware Powell. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sara McNeill Ware; a nephew, Lawrence Neff Powell and his wife Tammie of Columbia, S.C.; and a great-niece, Laura. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at Yorkminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Pierce officiating. A reception will follow in the church social hall. Interment will be held at 3:30 p.m. in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Amory Funeral Home, Grafton.
