Lewis H Ware, of Egg Harbor Township, passed away in the University of Pennsylvania Hospital ending his battle with cardiac failure.

Lewis began his successful career in sports in 1965 when he joined his brother on the Oakcrest High School wrestling team (98 lbs class). He finished with a 53-11-3 career and was the first of several to compete in the state championships with a 4th place. He was honored by the school as a Wall of Fame Athlete. He continued to follow area sports as “Coach Ware” in several MLAA and EHTYO sports. He spent his free time at car shows, fishing, bowling and golfing.

He served 4 years in the U.S. Navy as a Petty officer Third Class aboard USS Bainbridge (DLGN-25) during the Vietnam War. He was employed by Arthur H Henry, Inc. for 43 years as a laborer & foreman in Local 172.

He is survived by: his wife of 45 years, Gayle Suprun Ware; his children: Shari (John), Michael (Lisa) and Kristi (Russ); grandchildren Kayla, Breanna, Zachary and Tyler; brother Joseph Nelson, Jr. (Mary). Beside extended family he leaves behind his faithful dog Tanker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Nelson, Sr. and Evelyn Rose Simpkins Ware, and his sister Lorraine and her husband Richard Workman.

In lieu of flowers, Lew’s request was that dontations in honor of those who gave the ultimate gift of life be made to The Gift of Life Program, 401 N. 3rd St., Philadelphia, PA 19103.
