“EXCURSION PARTY ON MOUNT KILLINGTON.
Stretching the eye to the east far beyond the wild surroundings of the mountain, the prospect was quite extensive as will be seen by the reports made by Horsea Doton, A.M., of Pomfret, and Henry Wolcott, Esq., of Quechee, both of whom we found upon the mountain, each having a transit instrument, a thermometer and a telescope. In addition to the camp equipage necessary for the comfort of the party who were to bivouac upon the summit, these instruments and a barometer had been taken up the mountain by the company, consisting of five ladies and fourteen gentlemen including the guide.*
