“Mrs. Lillie Thomas Ware, 88, passed away peacefully, Monday, April 11, 2011, at Guggenheimer Health and Rehabilitation Center of Lynchburg, Va. She was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Madison Heights, Va. She was the daughter of the late Wister and Lottie Thomas. Lillie was married to the late Lawrence H. Ware. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank E. Thomas and Emmett E. Thomas, three sons, Larry Ware, Bruce Ware and Joseph Ware, one daughter, Jacqueline Ware, and one stepdaughter, Thelma C. Mundy.

Lillie was a faithful member of Scott Zion Baptist Church and a dedicated member of the Missionary Ministry, Flower Club, Hospitality Committee and taught Sunday School until her health began to fail.

She is survived by three children, Louise W. Reed (Irving Sr.), Lawrence Ware Jr. (Eunice), and Winston C. Ware Sr. (Delores) all of Madison Heights, Va.; one sister, Dorothy T. Jackson (Samuel), of Madison Heights, Va.; two brothers, Peyton Thomas (Esther), of Newark, N.J. and Woster Thomas (the late Bernice), of Madison Heights, Va.; two step-sisters, Catherine Loving (Allen), of Madison Heights, Va. and Theola Parrish, of Lynchburg, Va.; a step-brother, Kyle Stevens, of Richmond, Va.; and one brother-in-law, Bernard Jackson, of Lynchburg, Va. She also leaves Angie Reed, a devoted granddaughter; other grandchildren, nephews, nieces, great grandchildren and other relatives and friends to cherish her memory.

A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m., Sunday, April 17, 2011, at Scott Zion Baptist Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Her remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. The family is receiving friends and the cortege will assemble at 214 Liggon Rd., Madison Heights.
