Anchorage resident Bobby Vernon Ware, 68, died July 20 at Providence Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Chapel 1, with the Rev. Paul Birner of Anchorage Lutheran Church officiating. Arrangements were by Evergreen Memorial Chapel. Mr. Ware was born Feb. 24, 1924 in Hastings, Neb. He received the Purple Heart while serving in the Navy, from which he was honorably discharged in 1946. He came to Alaska in 1954 and worked at Elmendorf Air Force Base power plant. Mr. Ware was a member of the Anchorage Lutheran Church, the Purple Heart Association, the V.F.W., the Elks Lodge, the Moose Lodge, and the National Rifle Association. He is survived by his mother, Viola Sullivan Cedarege of Colorado; his nieces, Cindy, Candy, and Chris Slack and Carol Vellema, nephews Robbie and Richard Slack, all of California; and his brother and sister-in-law Don and Mike Slack of California. Mr. Ware enjoyed hunting, fishing, and exploring the wilderness with his friends in Anchorage.
