
Lester Vernon Ware, 94, of Limerick, formerly of Hickory, died Wednesday, July 29, 2015, in Sanatoga Center, Pottstown.
He was born March 3, 1921, in Centralia, W.Va., a son of the late Emory B. and May Blanche Skidmore Ware.
Mr. Ware was a graduate of Sutton High School in Sutton, W.Va.
He served his country during World War II in the European Theater as part of the 80th Division of the Third Army. Prior to being honorably discharged, he received a Bronze Star and a service medal with four battle stars.
Prior to his retirement from the Washington office, Mr. Ware worked for 37 years as telecommunications manager at Columbia Gas Transmission.
He was a member and past elder of Hickory United Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Ware was a member of Free and Accepted Masons Richard Vaux Lodge 454, Burgettstown, Scottish Rite of Pittsburgh Gourgas Lodge, American Legion Post 902, Houston, Hickory Lions Club, where he was a charter member, and Mt. Pleasant Township Volunteer Fire Department.
Surviving are two daughters, Hedy L. (Ron) Kubarek of Limerick and Kathy J. (Dave) James of Charlottesville, Va.; three sisters, Gladys Brown of Chesapeake, Va., Helen Nice of Virginia Beach, Va., and Katherine Dunn of Newport News, Va.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a son-in-law, Jack Hilferty.
Deceased are his wife, Hilda “Peg” Ware; a daughter, Linda K. Hilferty; three sisters; and three brothers.
Friends will be received from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., the time of service, Monday, August 3, in Hickory United Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 210 Main Street, Hickory, PA 15340, with Lou Templeton officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery.
