Wendell McClure Ware Obituary, 2011

Wendell McClure Ware, 90, of Carrollton, Mo., died Monday, Nov. 28, 2011 at Life Care Center of Carrollton.

Wendell was born Feb. 6, 1921 to Johnson and Donna (McClure) Ware in Lock Springs, Mo. On Oct. 30, 1945, Wendell married Martha Benoist Davis in Chillicothe, Mo.

To this union two daughters, Debby and Wendy, were born.

Wendell graduated from Lock Springs High School in Lock Springs, Mo. On June 12, 1942, Wendell enlisted in the United States Army where he was a toxic gas handler in England.

When Wendell returned home, he attended the Chillicothe Business College. In 1950, Wendell graduated with his BS Degree from Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield, Mo. He later received his Masters Degree in 1956 from Central Missouri State in Warrensburg, Mo.

Wendell retired in 1986 from Smithton Public Schools after 34 years in education. He held many positions throughout his career as a teacher, principal, basketball coach and superintendent.

Wendell enjoyed the outdoors, the Ozarks, fishing, quail hunting and softball. He was a member of the MSTA, Phi Delta Kappa and Missouri Retired Teachers. Wendell was a Methodist by faith.

Wendell is survived by his wife of 66 years, Martha of the home; two daughters, Debby Jackson and husband, Lonnie, Carrollton, Mo., and Wendy Ware, Branson, Mo.; two brothers, Mack Ware, Chillicothe, Mo., and Kenneth Ware, Chillicothe, Mo.; one sister, Doris Jean Mcleod, Grand Junction, Colo.; five grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Wendell was preceded in death by his parents.

There was a cremation.

An informal visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 2, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at Bittiker Funeral Home in Carrollton, Mo. The family suggests memorials to Lock Springs Cemetery in memory of Wendell. They may be left at or mailed to Bittiker Funeral Home, 1201 N. 65 Hwy., Carrollton, MO 64633.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bittiker Funeral Home, Carrollton, Mo.
